Public decisions should survive public questions.

Find the route that matches the problem.

A complaint is not a crime report. FOI is not a request for your own personal data. A service complaint is not an appeal against a court or tribunal decision.

01

Report an event

Use the organisation's reporting route. For Police Scotland, 999 is for an emergency and 101 is for a non-emergency.

02

Challenge service

Use a complaint route for an action, lack of action or service. Record each issue separately.

03

Get public records

FOI may cover policies, procedures, contracts and statistics. It is generally not the route for a person's own data.

04

Get your data

A subject access request asks a controller for your personal information. The controller may require proof of identity.

05

Correct a record

Identify the exact entry, the evidence of inaccuracy and which later systems or decisions received it.

06

Review or appeal

Check who can review what, the deadline and whether a complaint leaves another time limit running.

01

Police Scotland

Reporting, complaints, FOI, personal data and correction routes.

02

Police oversight

PIRC review routes and the separate route for complaints about PIRC itself.

03

Prosecution and case information

COPFS decision standards, case enquiries, complaints and Victims' Right to Review.

04

Courts and tribunals

SCTS contacts, simple procedure, administrative complaints and judicial conduct complaints.

05

FOI and personal information

Choose between recorded public information, your own personal data and a request to correct inaccurate data.

06

Housing

Private-tenancy information, tribunal applications, repairs, right of entry, registration and unlawful-eviction guidance.

07

Enforcement and general advice

Sheriff-officer complaints, court fines and general Scottish advice routes.

Maintenance rule

More links help only when their purpose is clear.

The directory is Scotland-first and carries an overall checked date. Entries that depart from that focus should carry an explicit jurisdiction label. A future update should correct the central directory first, so the same source changes across all question pages.
